A mother in Arizona, Guadalupe Garcia de Rayos was on her way to her yearly check-in with the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement office in Phoenix, when things didn’t go as planned. Guadalupe was taken into custody and ordered to be deported. After 8 years of check-ins, things took a turn for the worse.
While Guadalupe is in custody, her husband and children joined in a protest; along with many other people who want her out, they find President Trump’s new Executive order irrelevant. Seven people were arrested when they tried to block an ICE van that proceeded to take Guadalupe away.
Guadalupe’s attorney, Ray Ybarra Maldonado, stated, “I think this is a direct result of the new executive orders that are being put into action. President Trump is saying they are enhancing public safety while they really appear only to be attacking immigrant communities and attacking people of color.” This statement is true considering the families that are in fear.
The United States of America was built on a foundation of acceptance. Thus, another term for the U.S. is a “melting pot.” The term melting pot is quite self explanatory as a place where different people or different cultures all come together and begin to merge and mix. America is an example of a melting pot where immigrants and people from all over the world visit and live and share thoughts and ideas to create one big new culture.
People shouldn’t be thrown out of a country with a basis of letting every different culture in. America was built up to be the country of acceptance for culture, race, and religion. It has been so long, and now things are going down hill. People of certain races are scared that they won’t be able to come back from this. So many negative things have happened in the past, the country doesn’t need to bring back the past.
