Skillet began their Unleashed tour, accompanied by Thousand Foot Krutch, Sick Puppies and Devour the Day, in Clive, IA in fall of 2016. They are going to start the second leg of the tour on Jan. 28 in Orlando, Florida and continuing across the U.S. The band will have two concerts in Idaho, one in Garden City on Feb. 25 and one in Idaho Falls on Feb. 26. Unleashed tour will continue through through the west before ending in Kennewick, Washington in July at the Creation Festival.
Ashley Anderson, senior, said “I enjoy their music, and I am going to try and make it to their concert in February.”
Senior Karlee Ward is also interested in attending the concert, stating that “they are an okay band, and my favorite song would probably have to be Whispers in the Dark,” from their 2006 album Comatose.
Skillet is a Christian rock band, born in Tennessee in 1996. The original band was formed from lead singer John Cooper and Ken Steorts on keyboard, vocals, rhythm guitar and the synthesizer and drummer Trey McClurkin. The trio, all three of whom came from other bands, named their group Skillet because of their different musical backgrounds, and they felt like they were throwing everything in a Skillet to see what they could “cook up.”
Patric Johnson, senior, said that “I use skillets to make my eggs, so naturally I would enjoy their music,” While Skillet isn’t a very well known band anymore, during the 90’s and early 2000’s they were more widely known.
Skillet has won multiple Dove Rock Song of the Year awards and nominations for Rock Album of the Year, Artist of the Year and Rock Song of the Year. Comatose, released in October of 2006, has since sold over 1,000,000 copies and has gone platinum, along with their album Awake (2009). Some of their best known songs are Awake and Alive (2009), Monster (2009), Not Gonna Die (2013), and most recently Feel Invincible released in 2016 on the Unleashed record.
